Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener Volunteers are a broadly talented and skilled group of citizen scientists who have undergone rigorous training to earn the title of Master Gardener. "World Beyond Gardens" is an art and culinary showcase held at the Agroforestry Resource Center in Acra, located at 6055 Rt 23, Acra, NY 12405. The opening reception will be held Saturday, May 5 from 4:00-6:00 pm.
Master Gardener Volunteers have a variety of backgrounds including visual artists, musicians, teachers, medical and legal professionals, civil servants, farmers, clerks, and housewives. Most “cross-pollinate” by additional participation in other volunteer organizations. All share their skills to educate the public about responsible and enjoyable gardening.
The art show ranges from quilts to oils, photos to acrylics, watercolors and charcoals, and the culinary portion will include local wines and beers to enhance the delectable samples. This art show serves the dual purpose of showcasing the artistic and culinary skills of the MGVs and providing a fund raising opportunity via a silent auction to be held on June 30 at the closing reception.
The funds are designated to help defray the expense of a trip to the 2019 International Master Gardener Convention, which is held every two years. This moves to different venues each time, and will be in “nearby” Pennsylvania in 2019. It is a unique opportunity to expand the networking and educational range of our volunteers on a national and world level.
The Closing Reception and Silent Auction will be held on Saturday, June 30 from 4:00-8:00 pm. As the gallery does double duty as a class and meeting room, call ahead to make sure you will be able to access the gallery at (518) 622-9820 x100.
