Farming Forest Fungi, Shiitakes and More

  • Saturday, July 17, 2021, 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM

Thinking about adding a new crop to your farm? Or maybe you have tried growing a few mushrooms and want to scale up? Join us at the Siuslaw Model Forest shiitake laying yard to learn about managing shiitakes, as well as other mushrooms, as a crop. At this hands-on workshops, participants will experience soaking, fruiting and harvesting shiitakes, and will learn what is required to build your own mushroom yard. In addition, we will examine where we harvested small pole-size trees used for inoculating the shiitake mushrooms and understand the rationale for harvesting those particular trees as part of forest improvement. Participants will gain an understanding of how to profit from this newly recognized crop and leave with a mushroom burrito to ‘plant’ back on your land. Please register early as class size is limited to 15!

Registration end July 14th
