Build your own worm bin!

Composting with worms is a wonderful way to go ‘green’. This approach will keep your kitchen scraps out of the landfills, and also produce worm castings, which will help your garden grow. Learn about composting worms and how they work. You will have the opportunity to take home a living worm compost system.

Growing Forest Fungi

Interested in growing mushrooms? Tracey Testo-Smith will instruct you to grow different types using a range of materials, with a focus on shiitakes. Participate in a hands-on experience, inoculating wood with shiitake spawn, and creating a wine-cap mushroom burrito to bring home to enjoy. This is also a great opportunity to discuss forest management and understand the rationale for harvesting particular trees as part of forest improvement.

Pest Identification and Management for Vegetable Crops

Is something bugging your veggie garden?Katie Campbell-Nelson will teach you how tolearn to identify pests and beneficial insects of vegetable crops. Discover how to develop an annual plan to monitor crop health, scout insects, and implement ecological pest management strategies for your own garden.
