Swine - 4-H Livestock Sale

2021 animals for sale

Hi--my name is Shelby Schrader and I go to Chatham Middle School. I am showing a swine. I enjoy 4-H because it teaches responsibility and I can spend time with my animals. I sell my animals in the livestock sale to make a profit to buy animals for next year.

My name is Daisy Trowbridge, I am 16 years old and go to Chatham High school. I’ve been apart of the 4H program for 8 years. This year as a part of my livestock project I’m raising and showing two steers, a sheep, and a pig. I continue to show and raise these animals because they each have their own unique personalities and I look forward to my new adventures with them each year. Over my 8 years I have learned patience, skills to care and train my animals to show well in the ring.

Hi my name is Jordin Radley. I’m 14 years old and I go to Chatham school. I’ve participated in 4-H for five years and have been present in Columbia Country Feeders for my group. I have experience showing many animals but I’m currently showing an Angus steer and a pig this year. I chose to pursue these animals because I get the most enjoyment being around them. Cattle is my favorite to show but I find both cows and pigs have the most impactful personalities. I look forward to meeting my new animal every year. I’ve participated in the livestock program for five years as well. Being involved in this program has taught me so much and I’m very thankful! However, a huge factor of what I’ve learned is how much time and effort goes into raising these livestock animals. Not just worrying about getting them fed everyday, but working with them to go into the ring. I’m so glad I’ve had the opportunity to experience the hard work and hours that comes with it.

My name is Anneke Nijboer, I am 16 years old and go to Chatham High School. I have been in the 4-H Live Stock Program for three years. This year I am raising and showing one Angus steer, one Hampshire Cross lamb, and one Hampshire Cross pig. These projects have taught me to work hard and that it takes a lot of dedication and patience to raise a market animal successfully. I enjoy spending my summer feeding, caring, walking, washing and showing my animals. Even though it takes hard work everyday, I miss it when fall ushers in and my projects are sold. But, my sadness quickly changes to excitement as spring arrives knowing new projects are soon to be delivered.

Patrick Stark is 16 years old and is a junior at Taconic Hills. He has participated in the 4-H program since first grade. He has shown rabbits, swine, sheep and beef cattle. Of the four species, beef cattle is his favorite. Some of the cattle he is currently showing have been bred and raised right on his family farm. Through 4 H he has learned to care for his animals, and the meaning of hard work. However, 4-H introduced him to showing cattle which has inspired him to show beyond 4H and attend other cattle shows. Through those shows he has learned to be a better showman and build positive relationships with other farming families throughout New York State, as well as, local farms close to home. Patrick enjoys being apart of the 4-H livestock team and sale each summer. Being a part of the livestock sale has taught him marketing skills as well as learning how to produce a product that a buyer would want. He appreciates all the support the community has given to the 4-H livestock sale and the 4-H program to make is successful.
