Siuslaw Model Forest BioBlitz

  • Saturday, October 23, 2021, 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM

Cornell Cooperative Extension welcomes volunteers to participate in a citizen science project: an ongoing BioBlitz in the Siuslaw Model Forest between October 2021 and October 2022. A BioBlitz is a communal citizen-science effort to record as many species within a designated location and time period as possible. We will get started at the event on October 23rd, where you will learn how to use iNaturalist and about the many apps available to help identify species. Then we’ll take a walk into the forest to test those new tools and start to collect data on which organisms are found in the Siuslaw Model Forest. Please dress appropriately for an outdoor, woodland walk. Sturdy shoes, tick protection and water are recommended.

Throughout the year, you can return to the Siuslaw Model Forest to help identify and record as many species as possible, or focus on your specific interests (like birds, amphibians, reptiles, herbaceous plants, mammals, or mushrooms). This will help us build our overall species list and add to other research happening in the forest. Everyone is welcome to participate in this community-powered citizen science project!
