4-H members serving at the milk bar

4-H Milk Bar is a Cool Stop at the Fair

When you find yourself thirsty and hungry during your visit to the Columbia County Fair (held in Chatham, NY), the 4-H Milk Bar is the place to be for some refreshing snacks. Local New York ingredients are used - ice cream from Dutchess County’s Sinon Farms and Hudson Valley Fresh milk. Hot fudge sundaes are a specialty – prepared with your choice of ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and topped off by a cherry.

Besides sundaes, also offered are the famous 4-H shakes, made from your choice of ice cream, whole milk and flavoring. If you want a lighter fare, choose a cone – strawberry, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, or mint chocolate chip.

Beverages are also served, bottled water or cup of milk, and our old fashioned root beer float is back by popular demand.

The 4-H Milk Bar is located near the Rt. 203 entrance to the fairgrounds, right across from Columbia Hall. It is run by Cornell Cooperative Extension staff and 4-H club volunteers. It is the first opportunity some 4-H members have to experience a work environment where they interact with the public. The funds raised from this enterprise are used to support a variety of 4-H club programs including career awareness and citizenship trips, volunteer chaperones, and awards and recognition. Plus, the tips you leave for your eager 4-H servers go right back to the individual 4-H members working in the booth.
