4-H members serving at the milk bar

4-H Milk Bar is a Cool Stop at the Fair

When you find yourself thirsty and hungry during your visit to the Columbia County Fair (held in Chatham, NY), the 4-H Milk Bar is the place to be for some refreshing snacks. Local ingredients are used - ice cream from Dutchess County’s Sinon Farms and Hudson Valley Fresh milk. Hot fudge sundaes are a specialty – prepared with vanilla ice cream, hot fudge, whipped cream and topped off by a cherry.

Besides sundaes, also offered are the famous 4-H shakes, made from your choice of ice cream, whole milk and flavoring. The fair special is “The Clover” – a mint chocolate chip shake topped off with whipped cream, a drizzle of chocolate and a cherry! If you want a lighter fare, choose a cone – strawberry, chocolate, coffee or vanilla.

Beverages are also served – bottled water and milk. Our old fashioned root beer float will be brought back by popular demand.

The 4-H Milk Bar is located near the Rt. 203 entrance to the fairgrounds, right across from Columbia Hall. It is run by adult and teen volunteers. It is the first opportunity some 4-H members have to experience a work environment where they interact with the public. The funds raised from this enterprise are used to support a variety of 4-H club programs including career awareness and citizenship trips, volunteer chaperones, and awards and recognition. Plus, the tips you leave for your eager 4-H servers go right back to their own community 4-H club!
