Putting the Garden to Bed: How to Prepare for Winter

  • Wednesday, October 23, 2024, 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM

Getting your garden ready for the winter involves several steps. A general garden cleanup in the fall will help you get your garden ready for spring planting. You may want to cut back certain plants, clean up debris, plant species that need to be in the ground in fall, protect plants from winter weather, and leave some plants for winter interest. Removing plants or debris with diseases or pest problems ensures that your garden will remain healthy over the winter and into the next season.

About SuziSuzi Novak lives and gardens in Windham. Before becoming a Master Gardener Volunteer this past June, she ran two community gardens and directed a Westchester non-profit that grew and distributed vegetables for families in need. Suzi considers herself a garden geek and loves to teach others so they too, can have the fun of getting their hands dirty and growing things they enjoy.

Additional Notes: You are encouraged to bring a lunch to enjoy during this presentation.
