Legislators to Kick-off June Dairy Month with Smoothie Challenge

Four local legislators will be pairing up with teen 4-H members from Columbia and Greene Counties for a Smoothie Challenge during Ag Day. Assemblyman Chris Tague, Assembly member Didi Barrett, Legislator Matt Luvera and Supervisor Art Bassin will all put their aprons on to each create their signature smoothie – with the help of their 4-H teen partners.

Join us in front of the stage at 10:45AM to watch the drama unfold as each team gets creative, with blender in hand, to make and name their smoothie. They will “shop” from a basket full of fruits, grains, veggies and dairy products. Following the blending, our illustrious “judging” team, made up of a local chef, a caterer and a Columbia County Dairy Ambassador, will share their thoughts about these tasty treats.

What a better way to celebrate the first day of June Dairy Month than to make a smoothie! While you wait feel free to partake of a free dish of ice cream, complements of the Columbia County Dairy Promotion Committee. Columbia County Dairy Ambassadors will be on hand to scoop for you.

Originally established as a grocery/milk promotion in 1937, National Dairy Month now acts as a reminder of the health benefits that dairy products provide. They contain essential nutrients — including calcium, potassium, vitamin D, and protein. They also reduce the risk of high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and certain cancers, while helping us to better manage our weight. Kick start each day with nutrient-rich dairy products and start your summer on a healthy note.

The Smoothie Challenge is an event of Ag Day 2019 being held on Saturday, June 1 from 10AM to 2PM on the campus of Columbia-Greene Community College. This is a family-oriented festival, taking place rain or shine, offering hands-on activities and new experiences for all ages. It is a free public event hosted by Columbia-Greene Community College and is a 4-H 90^th Anniversary Event.
