About Ariana

Ariana Smart Truman is a Master Gardener Intern (2024 cohort with the Columbia County and Green Counties Cornell Cooperative Extension). Growing up in California adjacent to counterculture back-to-the-land communities, she gained an early appreciation for growing food and flowers, fostered by time spent gardening with her grandparents in the Midwest. After years of rooftop and urban gardening in New York City, she moved to Columbia County, where she now manages several acres of meadows, decorative landscaping, and a vegetable and cutting flower garden. Passionate about both education and gardening, Ariana runs a theater program for under-resourced NYC public schools. Committed to fostering inclusive working environments, she has training in Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice best practices. She has had a successful career as a theater producer, working on award-winning productions that have toured internationally. Ariana is excited to combine her love of gardening with teaching and is currently transforming parts of her property into vibrant wildflower meadows, which inspired this class.
